Two persons belonging to Chennai have once again tested positive for Coronavirus after getting cured totally. This has been brought to light by the Chennai Corporation commissioner, Mr. Prakash

Regarding the relapse, the medical experts were of the view that the need for the hour was to study formal reasons. To combat relapses, more analysis would be needed.

There has been a relapse of Coronavirus cases in the states of Gujarat and Karnataka also. Many now are very eager to know the exact reason behind the relapse of Coronavirus cases in Karnataka, Gujarat etc. Alternative strains of the infection attacking the immune system of the patients might be a possible reason and this was as per some medical experts.

Head of the department, General medicine, Villupuram Medical College, Dr. Sivakumar explained about how the relapse could be due to a person contracting different strains of the virus. He highlighted that if a person was re-infected then the acquired immunity through the antibodies might not be effective in holding off the new strain they have contacted.

From the report published by WHO, there was no evidence to suggest that those who have recovered from Coronavirus infection and have antibodies are immune to the second infection.

Impairing viral clearance and favouring SARS- CoV-2 reactivation could be possible due to the use of immunosuppressive factors like drugs or pathological conditions. This was as per a clinical study that was published by Elsevier Public Health Emergency Collection.

Retired director of MMC, Dr Shantha spoke about the need for more follow- up study in this regard. She cited factors such as viral shedding and short live immunity for the relapse of the infection. She was of the view that the factors must be studied closely. Mr. Asokan, dean of Coimbatore Medical College was unclear regarding the relapse and cited higher viral load as a reason.
