With increasing Coronavirus cases, wearing face masks has become compulsory now in Tamil Nadu.
For the purpose of examining the specifications and procurement of 13.48 crores cloth masks for the ration cardholders belonging to Tamil Nadu, a seven-member rate fixation committee headed by Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, commissioner of revenue administration has been set up by the government of TN.
It must be taken into account that the CM of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami, had given instructions to procure and supply cloth masks for all the ration cardholders free of cost. This was mainly to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection.
It is now said that the 7 member rate fixation committee that was set up by the TN government came after the chief minister�s instructions. The price of the cloth masks must be reasonable and as per the specifications and the rate fixation committee should certify these.
It has been brought to light by the chief secretary, Mr. K. Shanmugam the rate contract and successful bidders would be finalized by the committee members and the necessary recommendations would be sent to the government for awarding the contract to the successful bidder.
Important information gathered is other members of the committee are the director of disaster management, director of public health and preventive medicine, MD/JD or equal cadre in TN medical services corporation, deputy secretary (budget) of the finance department, deputy secretary (chief minister`s public relief fund) of the finance department and chief accounts officer of the commissioner of revenue administration and disaster management.
It has been indicated by the Union Home Ministry�s national directives for COVID-19 management that wearing facemasks is compulsory at all the workplaces, public places, during travel to reduce the chance of spread of Coronavirus infection. The order had pointed out that 13.48 lakh facemasks have to be purchased to supply 2 good quality reusable face masks per head.
