A new Government Order has been released with the approval of the Tamil Nadu State Government to receive payment for the garbage handed over from individual residences and to levy a penalty on instances of throwing garbage at public places as decided by the Greater Chennai Corporation.
Greater Chennai Corporation collects 5.220 tons of garbage every day. This is segregated into 2 categories of garbage - bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable. Only 60% of the public is presently giving the garbage in segregated categories.
Subsequently, Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to impose the Solid Waste Management regulation on the residents to receive segregated the garbage from each residence.
As per this regulation, payments can be received while collecting the garbage from the individual residences, and also impose a penalty on the residents who do not segregate the garbage while giving and those who throw garbage in public places.
This new regulation Act was passed by the Greater Chennai Corporation Council during December 2019. Subsequently, this was sent to the Tamil Nadu State Government for approval.
Presently, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has approved this the proposal from the Greater Chennai Corporation and accordingly, a new Government order has been released!
A senior official from Greater Chennai Corporation shared regarding this development:
�The State Government of Tamil Nadu has granted approval for the Act passed by the Greater Chennai Corporation on the garbage disposal. In the subsequent � day, this would be publicized to make the public aware of this and then will be implemented after 3months.
The payment for receiving the garbage from the individual residence will be collected along with the Property Tax. However, penalties imposed will be collected on the spot of violation!�
