Traffic calming design in the 20 busy stretches in Chennai soon

There were some complaints from the people regarding the difficulties in crossing the roads in several places in Chennai. It is now revealed that the Chennai Corporation is set to develop traffic calming design features along 20 important stretches in Chennai city. It must be noted at that these stretches many accidents takes place due to absence of traffic calming measures. The movement of the pedestrian is hindered by the breakneck speed of the vehicles in these stretches. It was demanded by the residents that the civic body should conduct a study of all such stretches to help the movement of the pedestrians without affecting the movement of the vehicles.

G. N. Chetty Road and Venkatanarayana Road in T. Nagar are highly busy roads in the Chennai and the civic body has begun working on incorporating design features in these roads. This was under the Smart City project.

The important piece of news gathered was not only these above mentioned roads but also other 20 important stretches would get pedestrian crossing facilities at all the junctions plus street furniture, wide footpath and restrictions to bring the speed of the vehicles under 30 km per hour. Presently as many as 471 bus routes, 33000 streets across the 15 zones in Chennai city has been maintained by the corporation of Chennai. People find difficulties in crossing the roads like Valluvar Kottam High Road, Nungambakkam High Road, Haddows road Nelson Manickam Road etc. The superb piece of news is G.N. Chetty Road would get additional parking space for 490 cars and Venkatanarayana Road would get additional parking space for 210 cars.

As per an official on the 2.1km of G.N. Chetty Road, 970 pedestrians were spotted in the rush hour time and 3842 cars crossed the stretch. He then revealed that 400 pedestrians were recorded at rush hour on the 1.3km of Venkatanarayana Road and 3804 cars crossed the stretch.
