After long wait, works to expand the 22 km stretch between Chennai and Tirupathi along CTH Road is seeing progress.
A review meeting was recently conducted with the State Highways Department. This involved discussions with 2 tahsildars where they were insisted to ensure property ownership on the road. The department also gave its nod to deploy tahsildar to take care of land acquisition.
Funding for the project
Speaking about this, an official says the revenue department has to choose the list of property owners and compensation distribution. About a sum of Rs 168 crore will be funded by the government towards the project.
In representation of the Avadi constituency, Minister K. Pandirajan says the widening will get speeded up. As there are several parcels seen in this stretch, revenue staff members are needed to carry out the job.
Currently, this stretch passes via 14 revenue villages including Nemilichery, Thandurai, Vilinjiampakkam, Thirumullavoyal, Mogappair, Korattur, Oragadam, Thiruninravur, Nadukuthakai, Sekkadu, Paruthipattu, Padi, Mannurpet and Ambattur. This is a four lane road. The proposal was made back in 2013 for making it into a 6-lane road. Because of urbanization and as the road had to be given to the hands of State Highways, the National Highways Authority gave out the idea.
Need for 19.71 ha
Totally, a sum of 19.71 ha is needed. It should pass through about 1422 surveys that are under the ownership of 2898 individuals. All these require physical verification prior to taking it to the next level where newspaper publishing will be done to seek owners opinion. In a few months, this is likely to be done, says another official.
The buildings got the markings about 6 months ago. So far, no notice is received. Over lakhs of people reside in this locale. And there are several industries. Back in 2013, the work was announced. So far no progress is made.
