In the year 1978 was founded CMWSSB or Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board. This CMWSSB is involved in providing water supply and treatment of sewage in Chennai city and its surrounding areas is known. The news is Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC Chennai is not having any idea regarding the onset of northeast monsoon and this has made CMWSSB helpless now.
According to the sources, the storage capacity in the 4 lakes is 1397 million cubic feet (mc ft) and the total capacity is 11257 mcft. It must be noted that as far as inflow is concerned only Poondi reservoir is receiving 582 cusecs of water, Krishna water from Kandaleru reservoir in AP. It is known that RMC had earlier announced about the early onset of northeast monsoons and this has made CMWSSB officials happy. Now the delay of the monsoon has made these officials little worried and the officials have begun waiting for the onset of monsoon.
An official expressed his disappointment regarding the onset of northeast monsoon and spoke about how he thought the monsoon would bring copious rainfall but the rainfall did not happen even after the prediction. He later sounded optimistic regarding the onset of northeast monsoons and said the officials still have got high hopes of getting rainfall due to northeast monsoon. This official later threw light on the fact about how they are not looking for any other water resources as on now and how the drinking water requirements of Chennai people could be met by the existing water levels. He concluded that in the Chennai city there would be good rainfall in few days of time.
A weather expert expressed his thoughts and spoke about how next week there are chances for northeast monsoon to set in. RMC weathermen spoke about the cyclone Luban over the west-central Arabia Sea that had made landfall plus about cyclone Titli that had already made landfall in Oman coast. Hence there is a chance for changing weather pattern. To a question regarding the exact date of onset of northeast monsoon, the weathermen said it was not easy to predict the exact date. He further spoke about how the system has been monitored closely and how an update about the onset would be given. On Sunday, 14th October 2018, the city of Chennai recorded high temperature whereas some interior districts in TN had rainfall is known. In Chennai, Nungambakkam recorded 34.1 degree Celsius and airport recorded 34.7 degree Celsius.
