A one- day symposium on �Recent Trends in Basic Science: Translation from Bench to Bedside� was organized by Frontier Lifeline Hospital and Dr KM Cherian Heart Foundation at Frontier Mediville, Elavur village near Gumudipoondi. Dr. T. Ramasamy, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India inaugurated the symposium. The one day symposium covered topics ranging from stem cells technology, proteomics, in vitro fertilization, animal ethics, nanotechnology and surface chemistry.
Dr. T. Ramasamy stressed the need for progress in medical sciences to be integrated with nature and traditional knowledge rather than be seen as isolated advancements. He emphasized the need of conducting robust research in Indian traditional medicines and as the efficacy of such medicines can be compared with modern medicines using biological markers as a tool. Dr. T. Ramasamy encouraged medical professionals to show interest in active research as this goes a long way in making breakthroughs in medical science.
Commenting at the event Dr KM Cherian, Chairman of Frontier Lifeline Hospital said that at Frontier Mediville, science, nature and social commitment merge. With the focus on green healing, at Frontier Mediville, soon the construction of a Biohospital, first of that kind in our country will commence. Dr K Sadasivan Pillai (Deputy Managing Director) made a presentation on the pre-clinical facilities and other amenities especially for elderly population, environment and energy conservation at Frontier Mediville.
The symposium saw many prominent speakers including Dr. A.B. Mandal, Director, Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, Dr. L. Boominathan, Genome Discovery, Puducherry, Dr. S. Krishna Kumar, Sankara Netralaya, Chennai, Dr. K. Kumanan, Dr. Mangala Gowri, Tamilnadu Veterinary University, Chennai and Dr R.S. Verma, IIT, Chennai. Over 150 post graduate students and researchers from various colleges from across Chennai participated in the Symposium.
