Heavy rain continued unabated lashing Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu inundating several low-lying areas. As per the reports of a weatherman, the deep depression on the Bay of Bengal that caused widespread rain in the state since Sunday morning will not intensify into a cyclonic storm. Nungambakkam recorded 4cm rainfall and Meenambakkam recorded 2.7cm in three hours since 8.30am on Monday.
Power supply was cut by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board in several parts of Chennai where water-logging was reported to avoid incidents of electrocution since it is using underground power cables in the city. Trees fell in several areas blocking roads. Streetlights and traffic signals had not been working in several areas.
Rain disrupted train services on the Tambaram Beach suburban line in Chennai on Monday morning. Tracks were submerged in water in some places between Tambaram and Pallavaram stations, forcing the railways to suspend services between the stations at 7am.
Trains were also delayed after a tree fell on tracks near Park railway station on the same route around 9am. Incoming express trains were delayed by almost two hours.
