Protest against excess fare at toll gates: Trucks/Lorries on strike tomorrow - 1st October!

Following the failure of discussions with the central government to reach an agreement, All India Motor Congress has announced that indefinite strike will commence from tomorrow (Thursday, 1st October) morning as scheduled.

The former head of All India Motor Congress Mr. Shanmugappa informed about this to the press reporters at Delhi.

Prior to this, discussions were held with the secretary of the ministry of transport.

A demand was made to close all the toll gates throughout the country and to introduce annual toll tax payment for all vehicles like trucks & Lorries. However, the central government did not agree to this demand and the discussions failed. Mr. Shanmugappa informed about the outcome of the discussion.

All goods trucks in Tamil Nadu are also participating in this strike. It is estimated that around 5.5 lakh trucks may not run. They would be stopped wherever they are.

Whatever good have to be dispatched tonight will be sent by trucks. However, trucks will not run from the next morning (1st October). This was informed by Tamil Nadu State Lorry Owners Association President Mr. K. Nallathambi.

He further informed that the lorry strike will commence tomorrow as scheduled. About 5.5 truck will not run in Tamil Nadu. The strike will continue till the toll tax fare is regularized and made uniform throughout the country.

This has led to the fear and the risk of price of essential food commodities going up. 

Some of the trucks carrying vegetables arriving at Chennai from other places in Tamil Nadu state and other states will reach Chennai by early morning. The stock will last for only 1 or 2 days.

Vegetable which rot quickly cannot be stored for long durations. Hence, the traders may buy excess quantity of vegetables tomorrow (Thursday, 1st October) morning. The wholesale vegetable leaders of Chennai Metro city and its suburbs have planned to buy excess quantity of vegetables and take them in smaller trucks.
