WhatsApp was started intending to provide chat platform for all smartphone users. This received huge welcoming from all corners and this is in fact present on all smartphones with all people using it. Few months ago, the mobile app included a new feature that allowed users to make voice calls. Following months of testing, it was made available for the public to user it.
This is also being tested for Windows and iPhone and will be made available for those two as well. So now this will be a simple way of making calls just with internet. This has however irked the telecom providers. According to reports, it is said that in Zimbabwe, Econet, a telecom service provider wants its users to pay for the calls made through WhatsApp separately. The company is the largest in the country holding over 8 million subscribers. The giant also offers social media bundles like use of Facebook and WhatsApp priced $0.3 to $3 for use per day. As the subscribers are making use of WhatsApps voice calling feature, the telecom provider wants separate charges to be imposed for the data used. This directly means that voice call usage through WhatsApp will be charged in addition.
