While the price of provision and vegetables in Tamil Nadu are getting considerably reduced, pulses stand contrary with hike in price. Pulses that were sold for Rs 90 are now priced high up to Rs 100. Those which are packed in plastic packets are sold at Rs 5 extra than the actual price. Pulses which were priced Rs 80 that are of second grade quality are now hiked by Rs 10 and sold at Rs 90.
Speaking about this, officials of the union of traders say online trading of pulses were banned during the period of Congress. Hence, the prices of pulses were under control.
Now, the ban is removed due to which there is uncertainty in price of pulses. This has created an unwanted situation where wholesale retailers buy pulses in large amount and store it with them and create a false price hike. Price of garlic is reduced from Rs 160 to Rs 110, red chillies are reduced from Rs 160 to Rs 100, and there is reduction in price in all products. While there is reduction in price in all these products, pulses keep increasing solely due to tricks practiced with online trading.
