Chennais CUMTA to Launch Integrated Mobility App for Seamless Commuting!

Posted on: 25/May/2024 10:55:57 AM

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) is set to introduce a common mobility app to streamline commuting in the city. This app will enable commuters to book cabs and auto-rickshaws from services like Ola and Uber for first and last-mile connectivity.

During a recent pre-bid meeting, interested firms vying to develop a `multi-modal journey planner and QR-based unified` app discussed the necessity of integrating e-auto, cab, and taxi services. This integration aims to generate a single ticket covering the entire journey, including public transport operators such as buses, trains, and metro rail, as well as intermediate public transport like autos and cabs.

CUMTA officials revealed that the common ticketing system for MTC buses and Metro Rail is slated for launch by the end of the current year as part of phase-1. Subsequently, local and suburban trains will be integrated in phase-2, with provisions made for future inclusion of private aggregators.

The transport authority plans to open bids once the election model code of conduct is lifted, with tenders to be awarded before the end of July. Upon finalizing the bid, the selected firm will have six months to develop the application.
