Founded in 1885 by Mr. Ponnuswamy in the heart of old Madras, Smith Field Bakery is one of Chennai`s oldest and most iconic bakeries. Over four generations, the family-run business has been carefully nurtured by Mr. Sundaram, Mr. Shanker, and now Mr. Venkatesh, who continues the bakery`s rich tradition alongside his father.

Renowned for its commitment to quality, Smith Field Bakery continues to follow traditional baking methods. Its signature breads are made using a slow fermentation process, resulting in rich flavour and easy digestibility. Nearly 90% of the production is still done by hand, with skilled artisan bakers shaping each loaf to maintain the bakery`s time-honoured standards.

In addition to its freshly baked breads, Smith Field offers over 25 varieties of artisan biscuits, including shortbread, ginger, ragi, jam swirls, and the famous Old Madras Butter Biscuits. For more than 141 years, the bakery has remained a beloved Chennai landmark, preserving the authentic taste and heritage of old Madras.
