TNPDCL Sanctions 1,030 Posts for 232 New Substations Across Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) has sanctioned 1,030 posts for the operation and maintenance of 232 newly commissioned substations across Tamil Nadu amid staff shortages and recurring power disruptions.

According to an order issued on July 24, the posts have been sanctioned as an immediate measure to provide essential manpower for the new substations. A proposal for the full requirement of 2,431 posts is still awaiting State government approval.

The 232 substations include 139 new 33 kV substations, 88 non-grid 110 kV substations, three grid-connected 110 kV substations, and two 230 kV substations.

Of the 1,030 posts sanctioned, 556 will be assigned to 33 kV substations, 440 to non-grid 110 kV substations, 18 to grid-connected 110 kV substations, and 16 to 230 kV substations.

TNPDCL said the additional workforce would help improve preventive maintenance, speed up power restoration during breakdowns, and strengthen emergency response during adverse weather conditions.

Officials concerned have been directed to deploy the sanctioned personnel immediately. Proposals for the remaining posts will continue to be pursued with the State government.
