CBI Warns Public About New India Post Parcel Delivery Scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued an important public advisory warning citizens about a new cyber fraud being carried out in the name of the India Post Department.

According to a statement shared by the CBI on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, cybercriminals are sending fake SMS and WhatsApp messages claiming that a parcel could not be delivered due to an incorrect address. The message then asks recipients to pay a small fee online to reschedule the delivery and includes a fraudulent payment link.

When users click on the link, they are redirected to a fake website that closely resembles the official India Post website. Victims are then prompted to enter their bank account, debit card, or credit card details. Once this sensitive information is submitted, fraudsters gain access to the victim`s banking credentials and can withdraw money from the account within minutes.

How to Stay Safe

The CBI has urged the public to take the following precautions:

- Do not click on links received through SMS or WhatsApp from unknown or unverified numbers.

- Always verify parcel delivery information only through the official India Post website: https://www.indiapost.gov.in.

- Never share your bank account details, debit/credit card information, ATM PIN, OTP, passwords, or any other confidential financial information with anyone.

Report Suspicious Messages Immediately

If you receive a suspicious message or believe you have been targeted by this scam, report it immediately by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or by filing a complaint on the official National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal: https://www.cybercrime.gov.in.

The CBI has advised the public to remain vigilant and verify all parcel-related communications through official channels to avoid becoming victims of cyber fraud.
