The present 3-term system for 9th Standard to be discontinued next year

The 3-terms system, presently being followed for the 9th Standard is set to be discontinued from the next academic year.

Presently, the system of having only one textbook each for the 3 terms of quarterly, half-yearly, and annual examination for the classes from 1st Standard to +2 was being followed.

Citing the reasons of the students having to carry the heavy burden of textbooks and notebooks and also the hardship to read extra lesions by them, the state government introduced the 3-term system a few years ago.

As of now the quarterly, half-yearly, and the annual examinations for the classes are conducted with 3 single books distributed for each term. Thus, once the quarterly or the 1st terms is over, the single book given for that 1st term would not be of any use. It is enough to study the single textbook given for the next – 2nd term.

However, it has been observed that the students of the 9th Standard with the 3-terms, 3 single books, find it quite difficult when they reach the 10th Standard having to suddenly study all the lessons in the 10th Standard. The quality of education/performance tends to come down and as such, complaints regarding this were made by the teachers.

Subsequently, the State Government Department of School Education decided to cancel the 3-term system from the academic year 2019-20. However, the present system of 3-terms with 3 single textbooks will continue for the classes from 1st to 8th Standards.
