Tambaram - Velachery Road Renamed as Major Mukund Varadarajan Road

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Wednesday announced that the Tambaram–Velachery Road will be renamed as Major Mukund Varadarajan Road in honour of the brave Indian Army officer who laid down his life while fighting terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision comes after a request from Lieutenant General V. Srihari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, who appealed to the State Government to name the road after Major Mukund Varadarajan in recognition of his courage and sacrifice.

Accepting the request, the Chief Minister issued official orders renaming the Tambaram–Velachery Road as Major Mukund Varadarajan Road.

Major Mukund Varadarajan was an officer in the Indian Army who lost his life during an anti-terror operation in Shopian. He was posthumously honoured for his exceptional bravery, dedication to duty, and service to the nation.

Major Mukund completed his higher education at Madras Christian College (MCC), Tambaram. After graduating, he joined the Indian Army and went on to serve the country with distinction.

The renaming of the road serves as a tribute to his sacrifice and ensures that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.
