Chennai Rain Alert: Thunderstorms Expected in City and Suburbs Tonight

Chennai: Chennai and several neighbouring districts are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on the evening and night of September 21, 2026, according to weather updates.

Private weather analyst Hemachandran said rain with thunder and lightning could occur across Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai and Tiruvallur during the evening and night.

Rain and thunderstorms have already been reported in parts of Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai and Tirupattur.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has also issued a weather warning for Tamil Nadu for September 21, including the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning.

Chennai and its surrounding areas may receive moderate rainfall during the day, with residents advised to stay updated on the latest weather information, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and lightning.
