Heavy Rain Floods Vyasarpadi Jeeva Subway in North Chennai; Traffic Diverted as Water Exceeds 4 Feet

Posted on: 03/Dec/2025 10:21:29 AM

Continuous heavy rain over the past three days has caused severe waterlogging in several parts of North Chennai. Despite efforts by Greater Chennai Corporation officials to pump out stagnant water using high-capacity motors, certain areas remain heavily flooded due to the large volume of inflow.

In the Vyasarpadi Ganeshapuram Jeeva subway, civic workers initially pumped out rainwater using electric motors. However, the overnight heavy downpour led to water levels rising to more than 4 feet, forcing authorities to completely halt traffic through the subway. Vehicles were diverted through Perambur Murasoli Maran flyover and Vyasarpadi Sundaram flyover.

Officials reported that rainwater from Perambur High Road, Pulianthope, and Vyasarpadi Sundaram Power Line areas continues to flow into the Jeeva subway, worsening the situation. Even light rain typically leads to water stagnation in this zone, and the current heavy rainfall has resulted in major flooding.

Meanwhile, the Perambur Manglapuram–Perambur Jamalia small subway has also become fully submerged, leading to a complete shutdown of traffic. Corporation workers are continuously engaged in water removal operations to restore normal movement.
