The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has forecast rainfall in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu for six days, from Thursday, January 15 to Monday, January 20.
According to the press release issued on Wednesday by the Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai, the Northeast Monsoon is likely to withdraw from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and adjoining south Indian regions within the next two days.
Rain Due to Easterly Wind Variation
Despite the monsoon withdrawal, variation in easterly wind patterns is expected to cause light to moderate rainfall at isolated places over the Western Ghats–associated districts during the January 15–20 period.
Chennai Weather Forecast
For Chennai and suburban areas, the weather on Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy, with light mist or fog during early morning hours at a few locations.
Rainfall Recorded in the Last 24 Hours
In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM on Wednesday (January 14), the highest rainfall of 90 mm was recorded at Oothu in Tirunelveli district.
Other significant rainfall measurements include:
Nalumukku and Kakachi (Tirunelveli) – 70 mm each
Manjolai (Tirunelveli), Ilayangudi (Sivagangai) – 50 mm each
Nagudi (Pudukkottai) – 40 mm
Vedaranyam (Nagapattinam), Adayamadai (Kanniyakumari), Aranthangi (Pudukkottai), Peravurani (Thanjavur), Billi Malai Estate (Nilgiris), Mullanginavilai (Kanniyakumari) – 30 mm each
