GATE 2027 Registration to Begin in Third Week of August; IIT Madras Releases Official Notification

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has released the official notification for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, with online registration scheduled to begin in the third week of August 2026.

GATE is the national-level entrance examination required for admission to M.E., M.Tech., M.Sc., and other postgraduate programmes offered by IITs, NITs, IISc, and other centrally funded institutions across India. The examination is conducted each year by one of the IITs or the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on a rotational basis.

For GATE 2027, the responsibility of conducting the examination has been assigned to IIT Madras.

GATE 2027 Exam Dates

According to the official notification, the GATE 2027 examination will be conducted on the following dates:

- February 6, 2027
- February 7, 2027
- February 13, 2027
- February 14, 2027
- February 20, 2027
- February 21, 2027

The examination will be held across 30 subject papers.

New Robotics & Automation Paper Introduced

A major highlight of GATE 2027 is the introduction of a new subject paper titled "Robotics and Automation." The addition reflects the growing demand for advanced technologies and emerging engineering disciplines in higher education and industry.

Online Application Registration

IIT Madras has announced that the online application process for GATE 2027 will commence in the third week of August 2026. Eligible candidates are advised to complete their registration within the prescribed timeline once the application portal becomes active.
