The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued a Yellow Alert for seven districts of Tamil Nadu, forecasting heavy rainfall on Monday, January 12, 2026.
According to the weather bulletin, a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal crossed the Sri Lankan coast near Mullaitivu and has now weakened into a lower atmospheric circulation over south coastal Tamil Nadu and the adjoining Gulf of Mannar.

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in the following districts:
- Cuddalore
- Ariyalur
- Mayiladuthurai
- Thanjavur
- Tiruvarur
- Nagapattinam
- Pudukkottai
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
Due to the prevailing weather conditions, light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from January 12 to January 17.

Chennai and its suburban areas will witness cloudy skies, with light to moderate rain likely in some parts of the city.

Fishermen Warning
Strong winds with speeds reaching up to 55 kmph are expected over the Gulf of Mannar and Kumari Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until further notice.
