Traffic congestion continued for the second consecutive day on GST Road, causing severe inconvenience to motorists and commuters travelling towards Chennai. With schools reopening today after the half-yearly examination holidays, a large number of people from southern districts headed back to the city over the past two days.
As a result, heavy traffic was reported near Singaperumal Koil, close to Chengalpattu. Vehicles were seen lined up for several kilometres from Singaperumal Koil to Thirutheri, leading to slow-moving traffic on the busy GST Road.
The congestion also spilled over onto the Trichy–Chennai National Highway, with cars, buses, and heavy vehicles getting stuck for long durations. Following a similar situation the previous day, yesterday marked the second day of continuous traffic buildup, severely affecting daily commuters, school-bound families, and long-distance travellers.
Motorists and the general public reported significant delays and urged authorities to take temporary traffic management measures, especially during peak travel periods linked to school reopenings and holidays.
