Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast: Heavy Rain Likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Theni; Chennai May Get Showers

A weak trough in the lower atmosphere continues to prevail over coastal Tamil Nadu, creating favourable conditions for rainfall across several parts of the State.

Today, isolated areas of northern coastal Tamil Nadu and the Western Ghats districts are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40–50 kmph. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Puducherry and Karaikal.

Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, isolated places may receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning.

Heavy Rain Forecast

On July 30, isolated heavy rain is likely in the Nilgiris, while parts of the Western Ghats may receive moderate rainfall. Light rain is also possible at isolated places across the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

On July 31, isolated heavy rain is expected in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Theni districts. Moderate rainfall may occur in other Western Ghats districts, while light showers are likely elsewhere in the State.

On August 1, isolated heavy rain may continue in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Theni. Parts of interior and northern coastal Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, may receive moderate rain.

On August 2, isolated moderate rainfall is likely across the Western Ghats districts, northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Light rain may occur in other parts of Tamil Nadu.

Chennai Weather Forecast

In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today and tomorrow. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is possible in some parts of the city.

The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 38–39°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to range between 29°C and 30°C.

Fishermen Advised to Avoid Affected Sea Areas

Strong winds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected over the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Comorin Sea.

Similar conditions are forecast for July 30 and 31. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the affected sea areas during the warning period.
