Sarees or bag straps or belts of the passengers getting caught between the doors of the metro trains could soon become a thing of the past!!

The news that CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited has awarded a contract to a private company for design and installation of an anti drag door safety system in all the 54 metro trains in phase 1 network in Chennai has been the subject of discussion for many now. It is a known fact that many people travel in the metro trains now in Chennai as they find it comfortable and affordable.

Information gathered is that CMRL has awarded the contract to Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies Private Limited. It is known that at present the automatic sliding doors of metro trains in Chennai have an obstacle detection system. It was later revealed by a press release statement that the new feature would be upgraded door safety mechanisms for passengers. Point to be noted is that if any slim object gets caught in the door then this new system would initiate an emergency brake. Train operators would be communicated also.

The release added that the antidrug passenger door system would detect objects like sarees or belts or bag straps etc if they get trapped between the 2 doors when the passengers enter or exit. Any drag force or pull would be identified by this advanced passenger safety system.  It is learnt that when the metro train moves and items of the passengers mentioned above get dragged then the system would automatically trigger the emergency brake. Instant alerts would be provided to the train operator through the driver`s console. Immediate action would be taken. In the future this latest passenger door safety system would be introduced in phase 2 network also.
