On the auspicious day of Vijayadashami celebrated mainly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, the Hindu tradition Vidyaramham is practiced. On this day, kids start to learn academic studies, music, languages, dance, and so on. This is practiced by starting with an initiation ceremony. This practice is called the Khadi Chuan in Odisha. In this state, the tradition is followed on Ganesh Chathurthi and Vasant Panchami.
As we mostly know, Vijayadashami is the tenth and last day of Navarathri celebrations. This day is very auspicious for beginning new ventures or businesses. The learning process or initiating is closely associated with Ayudha Pooja rituals. All the implements kept for Pooja on Ayudha Pooja will be taken out on Vijayadashami for reuse. The guru including goddess of learning Saraswathi should be given with Gurudhakshana. Betel leaf, Areca nut and a small amount of money along with new clothes like Dhoti or Saree should be offered.
The meaning of Vidyarambham is this: Vidya means knowledge and Aarambham means the start. The rituals for Vidyarambham are carried out at schools and houses. Most commonly, thousands of people throng in to temples for beginning their kids studies.
