Importance for passenger safety - All public services vehicles in TN to be fitted with tracking devices!!
For enhancing the safety of the passengers and vehicle monitoring, all public services vehicles in TN would be fitted with standardised location tracking devices. This was as per the TN state government. On 26th of August an order was issued by the Transport department regarding this.
The order mentioned the mandatory implementation of Automotive Industry Standard-140 (AIS140) in all vehicles coming under public services and transport categories as defined by the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.
It must be taken into account that the initiative is a part of the national framework directed by the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways or MoRTH. Detailed procedure for registration and activation of these vehicle location tracking devices has been laid down by the TN government. The transport and road safety commissioner would oversee the process for the sake of quality and compliance.
