Government Order or GO has been released by the Tamil Nadu government now regarding allocating Rs 500 cr for implementing Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Initiative- 2030 project to promote manufacturing of semiconductors.
It must be taken into note that to make the state of TN a trillion dollar economy by the year 2030 the finance minister Mr. Thangam Thennarasu announced the TN Semiconductor Initiative- 2023 project while presenting the budget for 2025-26. Point is that to increase the contribution from TN towards India`s microchip industry the initiative focuses on creating a high tech corridor in the Chennai-Hosur-Coimbatore region.
What are the main features of this project?
The main features are semiconductor design promotion project, creation of centres, skill development training and establishments of industrial parks etc. It is learnt that the project would create new jobs for the youth and play a role in the development of electronic manufacturing services. Moreover, the micro small and medium enterprises would also get developed.
The TN government has allocated RS 500 crores to implement this. Information gathered is that Rs 250 cr has been allotted for semiconductor design development project, Rs 75 cr for semiconductor testing infrastructure development project, Rs 50 cr for semiconductor equipment approval project, Rs 100 cr for small scale semiconductor chip project and Rs 25 cr for youth skill training activities.
It is learnt that the companies that would be chosen for the semiconductor project would be paid for 5 years. Arrangements are being made to provide skill training for youths in small scale semiconductor manufacturing.
Industrial park at Palladam in Coimbatore:
On a land of 100 acres, an industrial park would be set up at Palladam in Coimbatore district under the semiconductor equipment manufacturing project. Under this project, 100 college students would be trained to provide skill training for the youths.
