Gold Investment 2026: Gold Prices Rise Again - Will the Upward Trend Continue?

After a relatively subdued performance in June and July, gold prices have regained momentum in August. Strong international demand, expectations around US interest rates, ETF investments and the approaching festive season are among the factors supporting the yellow metal.

Gold Prices Regain Momentum in August

Gold remained under pressure in June and moved largely sideways in July. However, the first two weeks of August brought a notable turnaround.

According to the World Gold Council, gold prices increased by around 9% in international markets and nearly 7% in India during the first two weeks of August.

The rise in India was slightly lower than the international increase because of the appreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar.

Five Factors Driving Gold Prices Higher

Several factors are currently supporting gold prices.

1. US Interest Rate Expectations

Expectations that the US Federal Reserve may not raise interest rates in September, along with weakness in the US dollar, have supported demand for gold.

2. Jewellery Demand Picks Up

Jewellery demand has started recovering as consumers take advantage of prices that remain below their recent peak levels. The upcoming festive and wedding seasons could provide additional support to demand.

3. Gold ETF Investments Increase

Investment interest in Gold Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) has also remained strong. According to AMFI data, Gold ETFs attracted around ₹1,560 crore in July, indicating continued investor interest in gold as an asset.

4. Futures Trading Gains Momentum

Gold trading activity in the futures market has increased. Average trading volumes for gold futures on the MCX rose by around 9% in July.

5. Gold Imports Surge

India`s gold imports also increased significantly. Imports rose from around 20 tonnes in June to 40–45 tonnes in July, reflecting stronger demand ahead of the festive season.

Will Gold Prices Continue to Rise?

The combination of investment demand, jewellery purchases, higher imports and expectations surrounding US monetary policy has strengthened the outlook for gold.

Several market experts expect gold to remain broadly positive, although prices can move sharply depending on global interest rates, the US dollar, geopolitical developments and currency movements.

For investors, the recent rally is a reminder that gold can play a role as a diversification asset, but short-term price movements should not be treated as a guarantntee of future returns.

What Does This Mean for Gold Investors?

Investors considering gold in 2026 may want to look beyond jewellery and consider different investment options, including Gold ETFs and other regulated gold investment products.

Jewellery purchases also involve making charges and other costs, so they are not necessarily equivalent to investing in gold purely for returns.

With the festive season approaching and demand showing signs of improvement, gold is once again attracting attention from both consumers and investors.

Gold Investment Outlook

The immediate outlook for gold remains positive based on the factors highlighted above, but investors should remember that gold prices can fall as well as rise. Rather than chasing a sharp price rally, investors should consider their investment horizon, risk tolerance and overall asset allocation before making a decision.
