Chennai: Renovation work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station has resulted in temporary changes to suburban electric train services on the Chennai Beach–Tambaram–Chengalpattu route. The revised schedule will remain in effect for 45 days, from February 20 to April 5.

According to an official statement from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Southern Railway has announced that train services on this corridor will operate with modifications during the renovation period. These changes are expected to impact regular commuters who depend on the suburban electric train network.

To reduce inconvenience, MTC has introduced additional bus services. Currently, 16 buses are operating on Route E-18 from Royapuram Temporary Bus Stand to Guduvancheri via Tambaram and Kilambakkam, while 28 buses are running on Route 18A up to Kilambakkam.

From February 20 onwards, 35 additional buses will operate between Royapuram Temporary Bus Stand and Kilambakkam. In addition, 15 extra buses will run from Pallavaram to Chengalpattu via Tambaram. Altogether, 50 additional buses will be deployed alongside regular services to manage increased passenger demand.

Officials will also be stationed at major bus terminals to monitor operations and ensure smooth coordination. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and utilise the enhanced bus connectivity during the temporary railway service changes.
