Several parts of Tamil Nadu witnessed intense summer heat on Tuesday, with Tiruttani and Chennai recording scorching temperatures of 104 degrees Fahrenheit (around 40°C). At the same time, many districts also experienced rainfall due to changing weather conditions.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, widespread rain occurred across Tamil Nadu because of atmospheric circulation extending from the south coastal Andhra region. The highest rainfall was recorded in Kanniyakumari district with 163 mm of rain.

Apart from Chennai and Tiruttani, Vellore recorded around 102°F, while Madurai, Erode and Tiruchirappalli experienced temperatures close to 100°F.

Meteorologists stated that multiple atmospheric systems, including a trough extending from East Uttar Pradesh to Lakshadweep and a cyclonic circulation over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, are influencing Tamil Nadu’s weather.

Heavy rain with thunderstorms is likely in districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Erode, and Dindigul. The weather department has said the rainfall activity may continue until May 23.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of light rain and thunderstorms in some areas. Despite the rainfall forecast, temperatures are expected to remain high across the city.
