IIT Madras School Connect 2026 Opens Applications for Class IX to XII Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has opened applications for the October 2026 cohort of its School Connect programme, expanding the initiative to Class IX students for the first time. The programme aims to help school students explore different academic fields and make informed decisions about higher education and future careers.

Implemented through the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), the IIT Madras School Connect programme is open to students from Classes IX to XII. Applications will close on September 30, 2026, and the eight-week online courses will begin on October 5, 2026.

IIT Madras School Connect 2026: Courses and Disciplines

The eight-week online programme provides students with an opportunity to explore 17 disciplines, including:

- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
- Aerospace
- Cybersecurity
- Electronic Systems
- Law
- Economics and Finance
- Architecture and Design
- Humanities
- Mathematics and Computing
Engineering Biological Systems

The courses combine recorded lectures, live sessions, assignments and computer-based assessments. Students who successfully complete their selected course will receive an official e-certificate from IIT Madras CODE.

The programme is currently available in English and Hindi, while course modules in seven additional regional languages are under development.

Early Exposure to Career and Higher Education Options

CODE Chair Prof. Andrew Thangaraj said that providing students with exposure to different disciplines at an early stage gives them more time to discover their interests and make informed academic and career decisions.

IIT Madras is also planning to expand the School Connect programme to 25,000 schools across India, further increasing access to educational and career exploration opportunities for school students.

Dean Academics Prof. Prathap Haridas said the initiative would help students explore diverse fields, broaden their horizons and make informed choices about their future education and careers.

IIT Madras School Connect Reaches Over 1.75 Lakh Students

Since its launch, the IIT Madras School Connect programme has reached more than 1.75 lakh students across over 4,900 schools, including more than 60 schools overseas.

Students in Class XII can also explore IIT Madras` non-campus BS degree programmes, giving them an opportunity to learn more about alternative higher education pathways offered by the institute.

As part of the programme, students and teachers from top-performing schools will be invited to the IIT Madras campus for felicitation and interaction with faculty members.
