EMIS Number Mandatory for School Office Staff in Tamil Nadu

The EMIS number (Educational Management Information System Number) is a unique 8-digit identification number provided by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department to students and teachers in schools.

An EMIS number is created when a student is admitted to a school and remains active throughout their school education. Details such as the student`s name, date of birth, parents` information, class, attendance and other academic records are digitally maintained through the EMIS system.

Now, the School Education Department has officially directed schools to create EMIS numbers for office staff working in schools as well.

According to the department`s order, complete details of office staff must be digitally recorded through their EMIS numbers. Going forward, service-related activities, including promotions and transfers, will be carried out through the EMIS system. If any details of staff members already registered in EMIS need to be changed or corrected, the information must be updated immediately.

With this move, EMIS numbers have become essential not only for students and teachers but also for non-teaching staff working in schools. Their educational qualifications, appointment details and service records will be integrated into a single digital platform through the EMIS system.

Office staff working in government schools, including laboratory assistants, junior assistants, office assistants and watchmen, will have their service-related details recorded through EMIS. The system will also play an important role in managing various government benefits and other service-related activities available to school employees.

For students, the EMIS number is useful when transferring from one school to another. When a student changes schools, the transfer certificate can be uploaded online by the previous school. The new school can then access and download the transfer certificate using the student`s EMIS number.

The EMIS number is also important for accessing various government welfare schemes, including free school uniforms, textbooks, bicycles, laptops and educational scholarships.

In addition, EMIS details are used for government school reservations, college scholarships and for verifying whether a student studied in a government school while applying for certain TNPSC examinations.

The department has also stated that employees who have worked at the same location for more than three years will be subject to compulsory transfer. Promotion and transfer counselling will henceforth be conducted through the EMIS website.

School staff ranging from personal assistants to night watchmen have been instructed to register their details on the EMIS website and submit the required report by September 25.
