Tamil Nadu BE Supplementary Counselling 2026 Begins: Students Can Choose Colleges Until September 5

The BE and BTech supplementary counselling 2026 for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu has begun. Eligible students can select their preferred colleges and courses until 5 PM on September 5.

After three rounds of regular counselling, 56,530 engineering seats remained vacant across Tamil Nadu. The supplementary counselling has been launched to fill these remaining seats.

Students who appeared for the Class 12 board examinations but did not apply for engineering admission, along with students who passed the supplementary examinations, were given an opportunity to participate in the supplementary counselling. Applications were accepted through the official Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) website from August 17 to August 31.

18,548 Students Apply for TNEA Supplementary Counselling

According to the rank list released for the supplementary counselling, a total of 18,548 students have applied for the process.

The vacant engineering seats include:

- 53,668 seats under the general category

- 2,731 seats under the vocational education category

- 31 seats under the 7.5% government school quota in the academic stream

- 100 seats under the 7.5% government school quota in the vocational stream

Students can submit their preferred engineering colleges and courses until 5 PM on September 5.

TNEA Supplementary Counselling 2026 Important Dates

The temporary seat allotment will be released on September 7. Students must confirm their temporary allotment by 7 PM on the same day.

The final seat allotment will be released on September 9 after students complete the confirmation process.

High Competition for Government School Quota

There is significant competition for the 7.5% reservation for government school students. Only 31 academic-stream seats are currently available, while 4,798 students have applied for the quota.

Among the applicants, more than 270 students have scored above 150 in the engineering cut-off, while 37 students have scored above 170, increasing competition for the limited number of seats.

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission 2026: Seat Details

Tamil Nadu has a total of 2,53,806 BE and BTech seats across Anna University, Annamalai University, government colleges, government-aided colleges and private engineering institutions.

Of these, 1,99,775 seats under ththe government quota are filled through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process.

This year, 2,36,017 students applied for engineering admission. After three rounds of counselling, 1,44,295 seats have been allotted, including 14,931 seats under the government school quota and 1,29,364 seats under the general category.

Around 40,000 government-quota engineering seats are expected to remain vacant by the end of the counselling process. Notably, more than 50% of the seats remain vacant in 264 engineering colleges.

With the TNEA supplementary counselling 2026 now underway, eligible students should carefully select their preferred colleges and courses before the September 5 deadline.
