Tambaram Railway Station has received a major infrastructure upgrade with the opening of a new foot overbridge (FOB) as part of ongoing modernisation works worth around ₹24 crore.

The newly opened 8-metre-wide FOB connects the eastern and western sides of the railway station across all 10 platforms, helping improve passenger movement and reduce congestion during rush hours. The existing bridge will continue to function alongside the new structure for smoother crowd management.

As part of the station upgrade project, the Railways is also installing 9 lifts and 10 escalators to improve accessibility and commuter convenience. Officials said civil works for escalators are currently under way, while six lifts have already been installed.

Additional development works planned at Tambaram railway station include:

- New road access to the foot overbridge
- Expansion of circulating areas
- Improved parking facilities on the western side
- Platform shelters
- Coach guidance display boards

The modernisation of Tambaram railway station is expected to enhance passenger safety, accessibility, and overall travel experience for thousands of daily commuters in Chennai.
