Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 14 Districts on June 28; Chennai to Receive Rain

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rainfall in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu on June 28, 2026, due to variations in the speed of the westerly winds blowing towards the state.

According to the weather department, light to moderate rainfall is likely at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next few days. On June 25, isolated rainfall is expected over the Western Ghats districts and coastal Tamil Nadu. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue over southern Tamil Nadu, the Western Ghats, and interior northern districts on June 26 and 27.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the following 14 districts:

- Kanchipuram
- Ranipet
- Vellore
- Tiruvannamalai
- Nilgiris
- Coimbatore
- Tiruppur
- Dindigul
- Theni
- Virudhunagar
- Tenkasi
- Tirunelveli
- Kanniyakumari

Heavy Rain Forecast for Other Days

June 27: Heavy rain is likely over the Nilgiris and the hilly regions of Coimbatore and Theni.

June 29: Heavy rainfall may continue over the Nilgiris and the hilly areas of Coimbatore and Theni.

Chennai and its suburban areas are expected to witness partly cloudy skies today. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in some parts of the city during the evening or night.

Fishermen Warning

The weather department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea today and tomorrow, as strong winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected over the South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining Kumari Sea.
