State Training Centre to be set up for the teachers belonging to TN govt arts, sciences, engineering colleges etc!!

Establishing a State Training Centre to impart training for the faculty members of TN government arts, sciences, engineering, polytechnic colleges is on the anvil. This would be carried out by the HED or Higher Education department.

Across the state of Tamil Nadu, currently a total of 11 government engineering colleges, 54 polytechnic colleges, 165 arts and sciences colleges and 7 colleges of education have been functioning.

The overall planning and management of higher education across TN is done by TANSCHE or Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education would be entrusted to prepare a plan to set up the state training centre. It was later brought out by a senior official from HED that the centre would train faculty and staff across higher educational institutions. By this, there would be significant improvements in teaching, research, publication and institutional development within a short period.

Salient features of the training centre:

The training centre would have high tech classrooms with interactive smart boards, latest computer systems, library, conference hall, lab with modern equipment etc. Point is that experts would train the faculty members.

Orientation programmes:

It is learnt that every year about 5000 professors from these colleges would be provided orientation programmes, refresher courses to improve their knowledge. Workshops would also be conducted on specific subjects and training would be given on modern teaching techniques, management and e-learning etc. For each faculty member, the TN government would be spending Rs 1200. An amount of Rs 60 lakhs would be expenditure for the exchequer. This was as per an official.

Capacity building for teachers at all levels would be a key focus. Point is that the training programme would involve industry in both development and evolution. It is now said that an expert committee that would be constituted would submit detailed reports regarding proposed training modules etc.
