Comprehensive Preparations Underway for Lok Sabha Vote Counting in Chennai!
District Election Officer J. Radhakrishnan announced that training for supervisors, assistants, and observers for vote-counting centers will commence on May 29. A total of 357 micro-observers, 374 supervisors, and 380 assistants will be needed to count votes in three parliamentary constituencies within the Chennai Corporation.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha vote count on June 4, the Chennai Corporation Commissioner conducted the first phase of automated randomization for the assignment of supervisors, assistants, and observers. An additional number of supervisors will be hired, bringing the total personnel involved to 1,433.
Most of the counting staff will come from the education sector, while observers will likely be bank employees. Their training will continue for the next two days, and three main observers will be appointed by June 1.
On June 3, a meeting at 8 a.m. will allocate constituencies and tables to the assistants, supervisors, and observers, who are expected to report to their centers at 5 a.m. on June 4.
The Election Commission of India held a video conference with District Election Officers to provide guidelines for the vote-counting day. Political parties must submit lists of booth agents by June 1, who will then receive identity cards.
Security will be heightened on the vote-counting day. Currently, there are 584 CCTV cameras across three locations: Queen Mary’s College (176), Anna University (210), and Loyola College (198). Additional cameras are being installed: 106 in Chennai North, 132 in Chennai South, and 107 in Central Chennai. A total of 1,384 security personnel are working in shifts, and each counting table will have a dedicated camera. Arrangements are also in place for counting postal votes.
