New Low Pressure System Expected Over Tamil Nadu on October 25: Tamil Nadu Weatherman

Posted on: 22/Oct/2025 12:25:13 PM

A low pressure area has formed near Puducherry today, which is likely to merge with the existing low pressure over North Tamil Nadu, meteorologist Pradeep John has reported. This has caused cloud formations to move towards Chennai from Cuddalore and Puducherry, visible clearly on radar. As a result, rainfall is expected to decrease in the Cauvery Delta districts.

However, scattered rain is likely in Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Chengalpattu (KTCC) districts. Tiruvallur may experience slightly heavier showers. Rainfall is also expected in the suburbs of Chennai and Ranipet district until evening. The heavy rain currently affecting North Chennai suburbs may continue for the next hour before moving towards Meenjur, Ponneri, and Gummidipoondi areas.

In the Delta districts, early morning heavy rains are expected, although most areas currently remain dry. Only isolated places in Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Puducherry, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai may see light rain, with no risk of heavy showers. Winds are expected to blow from the south rather than the east.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Kanyakumari today due to the low pressure system over North Tamil Nadu, while Kodiyakarai may experience showers from clouds moving in from the south. Tiruvallur district is expected to see continued heavy rain.

Meteorologists say this heavy rainfall is temporary, as the merging of low pressure areas is causing localized showers. A new low pressure area is predicted to form on October 25, which may bring further rain to parts of the state.
