Residents of Chennai can expect relief from the intense summer heat as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on June 10 and 11.

According to RMC officials, a shear zone prevailing between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level, along with wind convergence from the east, is expected to trigger rain activity over Chennai. The city is likely to witness light to moderate showers during the evening or night hours on both Wednesday and Thursday.

The weather department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at several places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between June 11 and June 14. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated locations until June 13.

After experiencing soaring temperatures in recent days, Chennai may finally see some respite. Meenambakkam recorded a high of 40.7°C (105.26°F) on Tuesday, while Nungambakkam registered 40.4°C (104.72°F). The expected rainfall is likely to bring temperatures closer to normal levels over the coming days.
