The Chennai One app will soon allow commuters to obtain monthly travel passes for city public transport, making travel more convenient. Launched last month, Chennai One is India’s first app designed to integrate all forms of public transport in the city. Through the app, passengers can book tickets for Metropolitan buses, Metro, and Suburban trains using a single travel pass, offering seamless access across three modes of transportation.
The Chennai Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority (CIMTA) developed the Chennai One app, and it has already received a positive response from city residents. In collaboration with the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), the authorities are now working to enable commuters to purchase monthly travel passes via the app.
Currently, MTC offers two monthly travel pass options:
- ₹1,000 Pass: Valid for all city buses except air-conditioned buses.
- ₹2,000 Pass: Valid for all city buses, including air-conditioned buses, throughout the month.
Previously, these passes were available only at key bus station offices, requiring monthly in-person renewals. The integration with Chennai One will allow commuters to purchase and renew passes digitally, significantly reducing effort and wait times.
This initiative is expected to enhance commuter convenience and streamline access to all modes of public transportation in Chennai.
