Posted on: 09/Apr/2017 12:00:18 PM
As per the Tamil Hindu calendar, today is Panguni Uthiram day, considered to be a very auspicious day.

The traditional belief is that if we offer prayers to Lord Muruga on this day with special slokas, all good things will come to our life.

There is a double sacred aspect on Panguni Uthiram day this is the day on which gods were born Sri Dharmasastha, known as Lord Ayyappan, was born to Lord Siva and Lord Vishnu (in the incarnation of a lady or Mohini form). Panguni Uthiram is also the day when divine marriages happened.

The people in southern districts follow the tradition of visiting the Sastha temples in the forests. Thus, Panguni Uthiram being the birthday of Sri Sastha, special pooja will be performed in the famous Sabarimala Sri Ayyappan temple.

As per mythology, today is the day when Goddess Lakshmi was born as the daughter of the great Sage (Maha Rishi) Bhargava on the planet earth. She was named Bhargavi.

Panguni Uthiram is the day when the divine marriage of Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathy was performed. As per the mythology, Lord Siva presented himself along with His Consort Parvathy in the wedding attire on the Tamil month Chithira Visu on top of the Podhigai mountain.

This is the day on which Lord Rama married Sita - his brothers - Lakshmana married Urmila, Bharatha married Mandavi, and Shatrugna married Sruthakeerthi.

Panguni Uthiram is the day when Lord Muruga married Deivanai.
