Curbing the sale of banned tobacco products near schools etc- Drug free zones in Avadi in Chennai!!

School students fall easy prey to tobacco products is a well known fact. With the objective of curbing the sale of banned tobacco products within 100 yards near the schools premises, the Avadi City Police have done this now!!
The news that has come out is that the Avadi City Police have introduced a drug free school zone and this has caught the attention of many.
It is sensational to note that this is the first ever initiative to prevent school kids from consuming tobacco products.
A special enforcement drive has been launched by the TN government to stop the sale of tobacco and tobacco related products especially in the vicinity of educational institutions. To ensure strict compliance with the anti-tobacco laws, the TN government has directed the authorities like police and local bodies to undertake targeted enforcement actions.
According to Avadi City Police Commissioner Mr. K. Shankar, following the orders to curb the sale of tobacco and tobacco products near school premises as many as 200 government and government aided schools have been selected and announced as drug free zones.
The government school at Thandurai near Pattabiram in Chennai was busy with many activities yesterday as the Avadi City Police Commissioner made his presence felt at the school
At this school an anti-drug pledge was administered to the school students by Mr. K. Shankar. He spoke about how the TN govt has been taking measures to address the menace of tobacco usage. White paint and barricades were used by the police personnel to demarcate the zones.
