Devotees throng in to Rameshwaram for Mahalaya Amavasya

Owing to Mahalaya Amavasya today, at Rameshwaram, special offerings are given to ancestors. Over 1 lakh devotees who assembled at the Agni Theertha Karai offered seasame seeds and vegetables to their ancestors. Sever police protection is being given throughout Rameshwaram.
Further, places that are overcrowded are surveilled using CCTV cameras. There are, on the other hand, complaints that the basic facilities like drinking water, and toilet facilities are insufficient. There is also not enough vehicles parking facility due to which the place looks crowded and congested.
