The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has reported that a low-pressure zone has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which may intensify further tomorrow (Wednesday, 10th May) and drift towards Bangladesh.

In a notification released by the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, Pa. Senthamaraikkannan, it is mentioned that a low-pressure zone formed yesterday morning (Monday, 8th May) over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent South Andaman Sea areas. This low-pressure zone is likely to intensify today into a depression zone and may drift over the southeast and central-east Bay of Bengal to develop into a cyclone.

The depression is expected to drift towards the northeast and may prevail over the central-east Bay of Bengal on 11th May. Subsequently, it may move towards the north and northeast and approach the coasts of Bangladesh and Myanmar.

There is a cyclonic formation prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Northeastern coastal area of Tamil Nadu. Due to this, there are prospects for mild to medium rain in one or two places today (Tuesday, 9th May) in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

From 10th to 12th May, there are prospects for mild to medium rain in one or two places.

As high-speed winds at 100 kmph are likely to blow until 12th May over the southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman Nicobar Islands, and the adjacent Andaman Sea, fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea for fishing during this period.
