The Bible, translated for the first-ever time in Tamil Language, by the most eminent Christian Missionary Priest in South India, Ziegenbalg, Bartholomäus (1682-1719) History of Missiology, in the year 1715 was a rare piece (New Chapter) Bible.
This rare piece of Tamil Bible was gifted to the then Ruler, The Thanjavur Serfoji King, at that time!
Later, this edition was ceased by the government of Tamil Nadu and was on display for the public at the Thanjavur Saraswathi Mahal Museum.
This item was lost during the year 2005!
This stolen item was then located at the .company known as King’s Collection in London as found in the enquiry conducted by a website undertaking the recollection of museum items locating stolen items of a rarity – The Tamil Nadu State stealing Prevention Section!
It was confirmed that the Bible displayed was stolen from Thanjavur Saraswathi Mahal.
Further, all-out efforts are being taken under the UNESCO Accord to bring this rare piece back to Tamil Nadu!
As such, the Chief Director General of Police, Shailendra Babu, IPS has praised and congratulated The Tamil Nadu Department of Prevention of Statue stealing!
