Important information about first summer spell of rains in Chennai

The temperatures have been increasing slowly since the month of April. Now, Kathiri Veyil or peak summer has started from yesterday 4th May 2022. The news that has come out is that the scorching heat would persist till Friday and the temperatures would increase by 2 degrees Celsius to 3 degree Celsius. Chennai yesterday experienced blazing heat and high humidity and the residents found it difficult. It must be noted that in the state of Tamil Nadu the temperatures yesterday did not touch 40 degrees Celsius.

The highest day temperature that was recorded on the first day of Kathiri Veyil was at Trichy and it was 39.9 degrees Celius. The highest day temperature of 39.5 degrees was recorded at Karur Paramathi and 39 degrees at Madurai.

Nungambakkam in Chennai recorded the highest temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius yesterday and Meenambakkam recorded 36.8 degrees Celsius. Humidity in Chennai rose to 83% in the city and it created huge issues for the public

Some parts belonging to TN would have scattered rains till 8th May and this was predicted by the meteorological department. The scattered rains would bring some happiness to the public. In one or two places belonging to the districts like Nilgris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem there would be heavy rains with thunderstorms on Thursday 5th May 2022. There would be isolated rains on Friday in certain districts along with Western Ghats and in places like Karur, Trichy, Namakkal etc.

There are chances of light rains in Chennai till Friday and it is known that Chennai is waiting for its first summer showers. During the day time across the state, troughs at the lower level of atmosphere would act favourable for the convective activity. Truth is that the convective indices in the weather model show the possibilities of thunderstorms in Chennai region also.

Around 6th of May, a low pressure area is likely to form over south Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood and sweltering heat would be there in Tamil Nadu.

Till Friday, in Chennai, the maximum temperatures would be around 38u degrees Celsius. This was according to the meteorological department.
