For the next few days, TN to receive rains

The intensification of NE monsoon over TN, Puducherry and Karaikal could lead to moderate rains till 18th November 2020. There would be moderate rains in several areas in TN till Wednesday. The Saturday trough in easterlies now runs from the Comorin area to the west central Bay of Bengal across the south west Bay of Bengal off the TN coast and south AP coast.

Information collected is another trough from Comorin area to north TN coast has merged with the prevailing weather system. This would play a crucial role in the widespread rainfall in TN for the next few days. This was as per the prediction from the meteorological department.

Many places in TN received moderate to heavy rains in the 24 hours that ended at 8:30 am on Sunday. Point is that Kelambakkam in Chengalpet received 9cm of rain and this was the highest for the day. Nungambakkam in Chennai got 3cms rain. 

There would be heavy rainfall in one or 2 places in Chennai and its neighbouring places plus in others like Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli  etc on Monday, 16th November 2020. Till 18th November, the coastal places would receive moderate rains and thunderstorms with heavy rains would occur at one or two places in the southern places in TN.

It has been mentioned that the intensity of the rains might reduce from 19th November and only few places over Western Ghats and south TN have moderate rains. The officials belonging to the meteorological department were of the view that on Thursday there would be light rains in other parts of TN. On Sunday the weather in Chennai was pleasant and the day temperature dipped to 28 degree Celsius. Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam recorded 28.8 degrees Celsius and 28.5 degrees respectively, which was 2 degrees Celsius below the average temperature.
