It has been raining for 2 nights in Chennai city and this has led to water entering many houses.

It is now revealed that the rains would take a break for 48 hours in Chennai and southern parts of TN would get heavy rains. In Chennai, Nungambakkam received 39mm rains and Meenambakkam received 29 mm rains yesterday. In the next 48 hours, there would be moderate to heavy rains in most parts belonging to southern TN.

Few places in the north TN would receive light to moderate rains in the same period of time. This was mentioned by Mr. N. Puviarasan, director RMD Chennai. He added that Thoothukudi would get heavy rains in the next 48 hours.

Fishermen have been given warning not to venture into the sea and they have been asked to return back from the deep sea. The reason for that is there would be hurricane winds at speeds of 40 to 50kmph along the coast of Kumarikadal, Maldives, coastal Kerala, Lakshadweep islands and south-east parts of Arabian Sea.

Over the next 24 hours, districts in TN such as Pudukottai, Kannaiyakumari, Nagapattinam, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi would receive heavy rains with thunder storms. There would be a break in the rains for 48 hours in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts.

It has been pointed out by weather blogger Mr. Pradeep john that the weather activity just outside Chennai has been moving into Chennai now. This has led to increase in the intensity of rains in the parts of Chennai city.
