The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi districts today, due to a low-level atmospheric circulation prevailing over South India.
In the past 24 hours, Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district recorded the highest rainfall at 10 cm, followed by Vembakkam in Tiruvannamalai district (8 cm). Other regions including Avadi (Tiruvallur), Kalavai and Walajah (Ranipet), Vyasarpadi, Ennore, and Manali (Chennai) each received 6 cm of rainfall.
The weather department has also predicted light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in a few places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today. Tomorrow, isolated heavy rain is expected in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts.
For Chennai and its suburban areas, the sky is likely to remain partly cloudy, with chances of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some localities.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution in low-lying areas as the northeast monsoon continues to strengthen across Tamil Nadu.
